Lifespan

When wellbeing is looked at from a perspective of the whole life, and through a hormonal lens we can pick up clues to guide us how to maximise physical and psychological well being.

For example, hormonal changes at puberty can trigger migraines, which can then worsen again as hormones fluctuate more at perimenopause. Another example is if one has gestational diabetes in pregnancy (or perhaps a large for dates baby) or looking at family history of type 2 diabetes. At perimenopause the body becomes more insulin resistant which leads to weight gain. If you have these risk factors, it can indicate how weight loss and body composition management plans should be pre-empted but also once developed be supported. Type 2 diabetes can be thought of as a reversible condition.
