LEARN: Mounjaro (R) - a GLP-RA Medication

What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection used for:

  1. Weight management
  2. Insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes
  3. Metabolic health improvement

It works by mimicking gut hormones (GIP and GLP-1) that:

  • Reduce appetite
  • Slow stomach emptying
  • Improve fullness and satiety
  • Improve blood sugar regulation

In studies, Mounjaro has shown some of the greatest average weight loss currently seen with obesity medications.

Key things to remember

  • Protect muscle and bone
  • Prioritise protein
  • Do resistance training
  • Avoid under-eating
  • Increase slowly

Slower dose increases may reduce:

  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Food aversion
  • Hydration matters

Drink fluids regularly, especially if experiencing:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Reduced appetite
  • Constipation
  • Oral medications may absorb differently (especially the contraceptive pill, and utrogestan for the first month of each dose use)

Especially during dose increases.

Click counting is off-label
