Understand your investigations
-
Will you request blood tests?
We frequently request blood tests as part of our wellbeing management.
-
Will you request hair sampling and salivary tests?
We do not request hair sampling and salivary tests.
-
Do I need to pay for blood tests?
For individuals that are eligible for health care in NZ there is no fee for funded blood tests. Sometimes we do recommend unfunded blood tests like vitamin D and c-peptide or insulin. You will always be given the choice for these extra ones.
-
Do you send me the results?
As part of the FemaleGP approach we encourage you to be involved in your healthcare. Through the MyIndici Patient Portal you will be able to see all of the results to the bloods and other investigations requested by FGP, and comments alongside. Dr Samantha and the team also send you relevant information. Therefore, (if you want!) you can have some information and have had a think about things prior to your follow up appointment where the results are discussed

After Your First Appointment
-
What information will I be sent?
You will be sent an information leaflet about how our follow up works and how to access ongoing support. At the appointment you will also be supported to register for our portal if you need it. You will also get sent relevant information specific to your health needs as well as access to documents on the Patient Portal.
The wait time can be up to a few months for some appointments. You will also be sent some information to help you move your journey forward while you are waiting, and hit the ground running when we get to deep dive!

How do I get my bloods done?

-
Where do I get my medications?
βIt is our routine practice to complete your first prescription, and send it to your pharmacy of choice. You will also get cc-ed a copy of this email. Let us know if you do not receive it.

I have got an unexpected side effect of the medication?
Feel free to contact us via the portal for all non-urgent questions and we will get back to you asap. If it is urgent please see your registered GP or an Urgent Care Service.
But here's what we strive to do through the clinic to support you:
π§ We make a plan — together
We talk through the why, what to expect, and what we’ll do if you notice side effects. You won’t be left wondering if something is “normal” or what to do next.
π Some people start low and go slow
If you're sensitive or cautious, we often begin with a lower dose and build up gradually. This gives your body time to adjust — and helps us fine-tune things based on how you respond.
π Open notes = full transparency
You’ll have access to your consult notes, including what we discussed and agreed on — so you can refer back anytime. No confusion, no forgetting what the plan was.
π Confidence calls
If you're trying something new and want a little check-in after a week or two, a short phone review (what I call a “confidence call”) can be booked. These are there to catch things early and keep you feeling reassured and supported (extra fees apply)
β¨ Side effects are manageable — and you don’t have to navigate them alone.
Clear plans, open communication, and small tweaks along the way can make all the difference.

Do you prescribe medications?
Absolutely! Medications that are recommended are prescribed accordingly. Unfortunately, as a private provider your script fee (from the pharmacist) is $15 per item. If you have many items prescribed, you may wish to make an appointment with your GP to discuss with them prescribing the medications.
At FemaleGP we want to make things as easy as possible, but we realise for many money is a barrier (as well as time). Often our patients get their initial scripts from us, and then one doses are stable get their prescriptions from the GP.
