C-Reactive Protein (CRP) measures the level of inflammation in the body. Elevated CRP levels can be a sign of acute inflammation caused by conditions like infection, injury, or autoimmune diseases. However, CRP can also be raised in chronic conditions such as obesity, where low-grade inflammation is present. Additionally, it can increase during flare-ups of chronic inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease. While CRP is a useful marker for detecting inflammation, it doesn’t indicate the specific cause, so it is often used alongside other tests and clinical evaluation to guide diagnosis and management.
When Levels are High
Infection, autoimmune disease, heart disease, injury.
When Levels are Low
