Bone Health

Osteoporosis is a condition where the bones become thinner. This increases the chances of fractures and chronic pain.

Maximising bone health includes looking at risk factors from the past eg low body weight, immobility, primary ovarian insufficiency (and early menopause), malabsorption of food, eating disorders, or antiepileptic medication and a family history of osteoporosis. Bones need stimulation to not only continue to be strong, but also to get stronger. This can be done through exercise, but also one needs enough vitamin D and calcium. There are medications which can improve bone strength which include hormone replacement therapy and bisphosphonates.
